Screensharing is an anti-cheat measure used by our trained staff members (SS Verified) to investigate suspected illegal modifications and maintain fair gameplay. This guide explains the process, preparation, protocols, and rights associated with screen sharing on our network. Essentially, this practice maintains fair gameplay by detecting client-side modifications that server-side anti-cheats cannot usually identify.
ScreenSharing (also called a “PC check“ or “SS“) is a structured procedure conducted by trained staff members to investigate whether a player is using illegal modifications, is evading, or software that provides unfair advantages or ability to evade screenshare detection. During a screenshare, SS verified staff remotely access a player's PC through viable and safe softwares to examine files, processes, system settings, and execution-related artifacts for evidence that could be used to determine such suspicions. The screensharer's primary role is to enforce fair play. Their motivation must arise from a desire to maintain a fair playing field and protect the community from unfair advantages.
- Initial contact - When an SS verified staff member suspects a player of using illegal modifications, they will freeze the player in-game and send instructions via private message or a private chat. Players are typically given 5 minutes to download a specific remote support platform (AnyDesk or TeamViewer).
- Connection procedure - Suspects must download and install AnyDesk or TeamViewer to allow staff remote access to their computer. The staff member will guide players through the connection process and verify their identity before proceeding.
- Investigation methods - Staff will conduct either an automated scan using detection tools (such as Echo or Ocean) or perform a manual inspection of the player's system, but in almost all cases both are conducted. Manual inspections involve examining minecraft related files/logs, searching for suspicious files through file explorer or external tools, analyzing system processes/services and reviewing forensic artifacts that indicate possible cheat usage.
- Evidence requirements - Bans are issued only when concrete, unambiguous evidence directly aligns with our explicitly defined server rules. Staff must operate with absolute integrity and cannot issue punishments based on assumptions, gut feelings, or player reputation.
- Players must remain connected to the server upon freeze. Logging out, disconnecting, or refusing to follow straight-forward instructions will result in a penalty.
Right to Refuse
- Players have the imperative right to refuse the screenshare as a whole before and after the established connection to AnyDesk/TeamViewer for any reason, which will result in a penalty or disqualification, whether it is a normal or event-related screenshare.
Right to Record and Hold Supervision
- Players have the right to record their own screenshare session, share their screen to friends or anybody else of their choice, and have the right to be supervised by an SS Manager if they are online during the screenshare.
Right to Scan Preferences
- Players have the right to request to first be Echo scanned before a manual inspection. During scans, bans are issued for instance detections verified by manual inspection. This rule does not void a requirement of the beyond a reasonable doubt standard, and players will not be penalized for unverifiable logs. However, players will be required and once again prompted for a manual inspection.
Right to Refuse Extended Sessions
- Players may refuse the entire screenshare if it has been 2 hours from the moment of an remote connection.
Right to Recording and Privacy
- The entire session will be recorded by the screensharer to protect both the player and the integrity of the process. The audio of this recording can be muted. Players always retain the right to record the screenshare themselves and have an official supervisor (SS Verified member) present if applicable. Although staff do not personally look into private information, accidental or unexpected situations can occur. Any personal information or data seen during the screenshare is treated as strictly confidential and will only be accessible to authorized management.
Right to Parental or Guardian Presence
- In the case a player is under 18, they have the right to have a parent or guardian present for the entire process. The player or their guardian have the right to stop the process at any time if they feel distressed or uncomfortable, or per request of their guardian or parent. Note that this can still result in a penalty under refusal.
Right to Refuse Invasive Searches
Players have the right to disconnect or refuse if the screensharer intentionally breaches any privacy-related codes. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Going through search history.
- Dumping Discord or other social media processes.
- Dumping browser for specific private information.
- Going through personal files or folders.
- Attempting to read or capture passwords, authentication codes, or other login credentials.
- Asking players to perform actions that could expose private or confidential information.
- Downloading tools that appear to be from unverified and untrusted links, and the screensharer is not able to provide evidence to back up their claims of legitimacy.
Right to Fair Process/Appeals
- The screensharer must be professional, patient, and clear in their explanations. They must help with any confusion players have. If a player gets penalised with a breach of this guideline, they have the right to request for reconsideration in which the penalty will be revoked upon appeal.
- Players are presumed innocent unless proven otherwise. If evidence is unclear or controversial, the decision will be made in the player's favor.
Additionally, players will NOT be penalized if:
- Their system freezes and they can prove it was necessary to restart a process like explorer.exe
- Staff make a procedural mistake, or the screensharer cannot provide the required video proof of the session
- All personal information accessed during screenshares are treated with strict confidentiality no matter what. Staff are trained to minimize exposure to private and sensitive data and focus exclusively on gathering evidence.
- Personal data observed during screenshares is not stored beyond what is necessary for moderation purposes. Only authorized SS management and administration have access to screenshare recordings and associated data.
- Staff use official, verified remote access softwares as listed above this guide, and follow strict protocols to prevent unauthorized access to such data. Staff should never download software or request you to from unverified sources during the screenshare process.
- It is compulsory for every screensharer to record the entirety of every screenshare they conduct, from the moment interaction begins until it concludes. This applies universally, regardless of the screensharer's personal hardware capabilities. Solutions must be found to meet this requirement.
We have rules in place to ensure that certain Windows functionalities are enabled in the event you are screenshared. These functionalities are considered important artifacts because they allow us to gather necessary evidence. When specific Windows services or features are disabled, it can significantly hinder our ability to perform a thorough check.
There are various reasons why these services or functionalities may be disabled. In some cases, they are intentionally turned off in an attempt to bypass a screenshare. Other times, they may be automatically disabled by the operating system or by external performance-enhancing applications. The following Windows Services/OS Functionalities listed below are punishable under the “Attempting to bypass screen sharing“ rule if found disabled/non-functional:
- Background Activity Monitor (controls background activity of applications)
- Pcasvc (responsible for Program Compatibility Assistant and Pcaclient)
- Sysmain (responsibile for Prefetch)
- DPS (used to detect renamed extentions, executions, two different string software)
- CDPU_(RandomNumbers) (often used to determine external drivers)
- EventLog (Event Viewer service)
- DcomLaunch (responsibile for logging .jar executions)
- Activities Cache (tracks applications, copy-pastes, app switches, etc.)
- Data Usage/DusmSvc (used to track application data usage and monitors the amount of network data sent and received by each interface)
- Task Scheduler (automates the execution of programs, scripts or tasks at specified times or in response to specific events)
- Recent Files/Jump Lists (used to track what was accessed or worked with recently)
Enabling these functionalities can be a tricky process. It is highly recommended that if you experience any trouble enabling these services or processes, you refer to our concise and verified step-by-step tutorial to ensure your PC complies with our rules.
- Players should ensure that their PC is accessible and not in any way password-protected that would prevent or hinder the screensharer from proceeding.
- Players must have the ability to download and install remote desktop software (AnyDesk or TeamViewer) and access to Discord.
- Players should ensure their PC complies with our Attempted Bypass Regulations which can be found on our rules page. This includes verifying if certain services are enabled on the user's PC.
- Players should ensure they have a stable internet connection to avoid technical difficulties during the process. Please note that you are responsible for any connection issues, and appeals may not be decided in your favor even if direct proof is provided that the issue was not caused manually.
